Terms of use

Last updated: 19 September 2026

1. What the service does

sigabrt watches for HTTP requests you send it on a schedule you choose, and notifies you when one does not arrive in time. That is the whole of what it does.

It is a monitoring aid, not a guarantee. It cannot detect a job that runs but does the wrong thing, and it depends on networks and email providers outside our control. You remain responsible for the systems you use it to watch, and for having your own means of noticing failure where the consequences of missing one are serious.

2. Availability

We aim to keep the service running continuously, but offer no uptime guarantee and no service level agreement. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, and may fail without warning. Alerts may be delayed or may not arrive.

3. Your account

You need a working email address, because that is how alerts and account messages reach you. Keep your password to yourself.

Each endpoint has a ping URL that requires no authentication. Treat it as a secret: anyone who has it can report that endpoint as healthy, which would suppress an alert you were relying on.

4. Acceptable use

Do not use the service unlawfully, do not attempt to reach accounts or data that are not yours, and do not send volumes of requests that degrade it for other people. We may suspend an account that does, and will try to tell you why.

5. Payment and cancellation

Paid subscriptions are billed in advance through Stripe, who handle card details; we never see or store them. Prices are shown excluding VAT, which is added where applicable.

You can cancel at any time from your account. Cancelling stops the next renewal and the subscription runs to the end of the period you have paid for. We do not refund part-used periods except where the law requires it.

6. Your data

We store your email address, a hash of your password, the endpoints you configure, and a log of the events on them — pulses received, status changes, and alerts sent. Requests to a ping URL are recorded as an event; we do not record the address they came from.

Deleting an endpoint deletes its event log. Closing your account deletes the account and everything attached to it. Ask us if you want a copy of your data first.

7. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss arising from the failure of a system you were using sigabrt to watch, from an alert that was late or did not arrive, or from the service being unavailable. Our total liability to you is limited to the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

8. Ending the agreement

You may close your account at any time. We may close it if you break these terms, or on reasonable notice if we stop offering the service, in which case we will refund any period you have paid for and not used.

9. Changes

We may change these terms. If a change materially affects you we will tell you by email before it takes effect, and you may cancel if you do not accept it.
